If you haven’t seen or heard already, Apple announced huge changes with iOS 14.
Out of all the updates in iOS14, privacy and data usage change the game of advertising and you need to know how this will impact your business.
Within each app’s product page, users will be able to learn about how an app uses their data. Developers will also be required to provide details on their privacy policies, the data they collect, and how the intend to use it.
For most apps and users, this change may not seem like a big deal. However, the one app that may seem the biggest hit for its users, is Facebook™. With the new change, also comes new permissions for users.
Going forward users will see apps asking permission for you to choose one of the following:
Allow tracking
Ask App Not to Track
If you have spent any time running ads on Facebook, you know the best way to get your product in front of the right people requires data. Digital advertising relies on tracking to see who is looking at your product so we can market specifically to them.
Tracking allows small businesses to spend less money on digital marketing because it is going towards a specific target audience. Dollars are not being wasted on advertising to the wrong person.
This change won’t necessarily impact large corporate businesses who have the money to spend on marketing. The impact will be with all the small businesses who are trying to establish themselves.
Facebook™ has already shown concern with voicing how detrimental this can be to small business that rely on this information to help grow and gain customers. Facebook™ has pointed out that this change could cause loss of personalization which leads to loss in website sales and potentially a drop in revenue for small businesses.
Here is my take on it…

iOS 14 is forcing small businesses to have an omnipresence across all channels.
It is more important now, then ever before, to expand your advertising and to not limit it to only 1 platform.
Because we are not 100% how this will impact each business, start thinking about all the different ways to get your small business known on as many platforms. Small businesses need to focus on how to create an omnipresence.
Strategies on marketing are always changing right? So why not take an approach of changing with it.
This is where we can help!
Our team is dedicated to helping small businesses get visible across multiple channels!
